The Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery is the crucial part of the Abdominal Neoplasms Surgery at Sichuan Cancer Hospital, which has always been at the forefront of education, research, and clinical care. The department deals with the diagnosis, treatment and management of benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, biliary tract, spleen and allied diseases. Department is given priority to treat tumor with surgery, minimally invasive surgery and comprehensive treatment is another feature. The department currently has 60 beds and includes 7 surgeons with training representing the entire spectrum of surgical experience. These surgeons include one chief doctor--Dr. Feng Xielin with PhD, one associated chief doctors, 3 attending doctors and 2 residents. Some of them are committee member of The Chinese Medical Doctor Association of Liver Surgeon Committee, the National Association of Professional Committee of Pancreatic Cancer/Biliary Cancer and Liver Disease Committee of Sichuan Province. Dr. Feng Xielin is also the deputy director of the Liver Cancer Branch Committee member of Sichuan Province Anti-cancer Association. These surgeons have also communicated with many hospitals and institutes in Asia, America, Hong Kong and Europe.
The department mainly provides surgery treatment for all types of liver tumor, including liver resection, radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, ethanol injection. The laparoscopic liver surgery treatment has been developed recently with a province-wide reputation for its high safety and effectiveness. Comprehensive therapy including intrahepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted treatment are also provided, which make some advanced patients acquire opportunity of liver resection and improve the quality of life and long term survival. The biliary surgery, pancreatic surgery and spleen surgery also provide surgery and comprehensive therapy at all types of benign and malignant diseases, including gallstone, cholelithiasis, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic carcinoma and spleen tumor.
