The Gynecologic Oncology Center, the only one of provincial key disciplines, is an integral part of the Sichuan Cancer Center of the University of Electronic Science & Technology of China and serves as a major clinical and referral center in Southwest China for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with premalignant or invasive cancers of the female genital tract.
Center presided by Prof. Guonan Zhang as the head, consists of two resident physicians, six attending physicians, five associate chief physicians, three chief physicians, forty nurses and clerical staff, and 128 inpatient beds in two hospital wards. The concentration of our Center remains the diagnosis and treatment of women with gynecologic malignancies.
To provide patients with the best possible outcome, the gynecologic oncologists work closely with radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists. The clinical work of our Center includes surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments. All of the gynecologic oncologists in our Center are state certified or eligible in gynecologic oncology. They perform all aspects of gynecologic cancer surgery and complex benign gynecologic surgery, including radical pelvic and abdominal procedures. There is also a strong emphasis on minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery in women with uterine cancers developed by Prof. Guonan Zhang.
The Center led by Prof. Guonan Zhang as an Ｅxecutive director of the Chinese Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the M.D. and Ph.D. supervisor, continues its long-standing commitment to research through participation in clinical trials as well as a laboratory research initiative by Prof. Jinghe Lang, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has a national and international reputation for its work in clinical and basic research on gynecologic cancers, particularly ovarian cancer and cervical cancer. This Center has also achieved several research project grants from the National Natural Science Foundation and Provincial Natural Science Foundation. We have published hundreds of academic articles in many journals, including Gynecologic Oncology, Scientific Reports, et al. Our staffs had studied in many famous medical colleges in America, Japan, German, and Australia, as visiting scholars.
The Center is also the postgraduate admissions center to Guangxi Medical University, Southwest Medical University and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for sutdying gynecologic oncology. The Center has sub-specialty service to meet the needs of all patients, including colposcopy evaluation of the cervix, vulva and vagina, ovarian cancer screening for women at high risk, treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections that can lead to cancer and evaluation, counseling and management of cancer-related sexual issues.
