The gastrointestinal surgery center of Sichuan Cancer Hospital is the key discipline of Sichuan province. Renowned in west China, our center occupies obvious advantages in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors and holds the leadership among domestic counterparts. Professor Yan Jin, the chief of the gastrointestinal surgery center, is awarded The Special Allowance of State Council and Outstanding Contribution of Sichuan province. He is member of The Standing Committee of The Society of Colorectal Cancer of Chinese Anti-cancer Association, the chairman of The Society of Colorectal Cancer of Sichuan Province Anti-cancer Association, member of the Standing Committee of Specialty Committee of Surgery of Sichuan Medical Association. Four professors, including one with the title of The Leading Scholar in Science and Technology of Health and Family Planning Commission of Sichuan, and 4 associate professors consist the consultant surgeon group of our center. Two professors are Ｍaster student tutors. Eleven doctors acquired M.D. or M.S. degree. A number of experts hold the title of chairman, vice chairman and standing committee members in the national or provincial medical professional societies or associations.
Our Center includes 2 Units: Gastrointestinal Unit 1 (colorectal disease unit), Gastrointestinal Unit 2 (gastric disease unit). Gastrointestinal Unit 1 mainly focuses on the colorectal cancer surgery and its comprehensive treatment, featured in minimally invasive surgery and ERAS in colorectal benign and malignant diseases, and experienced in diagnosis and treatment of anus diseases, abdominal pelvic mass. After applying the complete mesocolic resection (CME) and the total mesorectal excision (TME) as the principles of colorectal cancer surgery, the 5-year survival rate was raised to above 75%, with which the therapeutic effect equaled to the international leading level. Our center has routinely preformed laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer, radical resection of rectal cancer with preservation of pelvic automatic nerve and ultralow rectal cancer sphincter-preserving resection under the radical resection principle of malignant tumors, which improves the survival quality of patients. Gastrointestinal Unit 2 (gastric disease unit) is specialized in surgical and comprehensive treatment of the stomach cancers, intestinal tumors and gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST). With the techniques of D2 & D2（+）lymph node dissection and intrathecal lymph node dissection, the patients of advanced gastric cancer after radical resection reached a 5-year survival rate of above 60%，which lead the position in domestic level.
Based on concept of multiple disciplinary treatment（MDT）, our center has formed a set of scientific, superior, standard, efficient and individualized treatment strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. Our center also carried out various types of operations, ERAS, targeted therapy, neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy, preoperative transformation therapy, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Especially, the surgical talents and operation volumes of routinely performed laparoscopic surgeries of our department have reached the top level in China. We have carried out MDT discussion every other week, to provide patients the international, standard and excellent medical service so that the patients in our center can receive the high-quality comprehensive treatment adhering to the international guidelines.
Several experts and surgeons in our center served as visiting scholars in several world-famous medical institutions in United States, Japan and Germany, etc.
The gastrointestinal surgery center has a strong foundation of research, undertaking a lot of projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial-level projects, and several results won provincial（city）level scientific and technological progress awards,about 100 papers were announced in article of national and international. Our center is the graduate student enrollment point of Oncology of Southwest Medical University and Chengdu Hospital. Six candidates were trained here and received their M.S. degree.
We provide professional outpatients medical service from Monday to Friday. All our medical staff are dedicated to offer the patients with matured and exquisite medical services, and provide them advisory services at any time with enthusiasm.
