On April 11th, Prof. David Gaffney from the Huntsman Cancer Center of University of Utah was invited to visit SCH and gave an on-site assessment to the international clinical trials which are hold by Professor Lang Jinyi.
Huntsman Cancer Center is a high quality cancer center with large-scale in the United States. Prof. Gaffney is the vice director of radiotherapy department of the center, as well as an excellent radiation oncologist of America. He focus on comprehensive treatment of gynecological cancer and brachy therapy.

Prof. Gaffney had a tour of the radiotherapy center first. Prof. Lucia, the foreign experts, Prof. Mei Feng and Prof. Tao Li from radiotherapy center, gave an introduction of the current situation and equipments of radiotherapy center, especially introduced the radiotherapy protocols, planning and verification systems. Prof. Gaffney spoke highly of the hospital for such efficient and accurate daily practice of radiotherapy, and fully affirmed the radiotherapy equipments and technical skills. Then he came to the brachy center, Dr. Ming Fan introduced the current practice of brachy therapy, as well as interstitial implanting and other novo techniques we conducted. After visiting the radiotherapy center, Prof. Gaffney visited the GCP center to investigate the quality of clinical trials and ethics review norms, and status of on-going clinical trials.

With the support of the International communication office and the Scientific Research Branch, Prof. Gaffney gave a lecture on the novo progress on the development of gynecological cancer in the United States for physiotherapists, physicians and nurses of radiotherapy and gynecology. Prof. Tao Li, deputy director of Radiation Center, hosted the lecture, and vice president Huang Xiaolin made a welcome speech on behalf of the president. He sincerely hope that the department would have further collaboration with Huntsman Cancer Center. In the lecture, Prof. Gaffney introduced the current studies of vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer, endometrial cancer and cervical cancer in the United States and the latest progress. He also mentioned that several clinical trials of gynecological cancers is currently carried out at Huntsman Cancer Center. He thought that the radiotherapy center of SCH is in full compliance with the international multicenter clinical trial, and he wished to have more and more deep communication and cooperation with SCH in the future.
