On June 23, 2024, the 11th Academic Degree Assessment Committee of our university held the fourth plenary meeting. In accordance with the "Management Measures for the Approval of New Graduate Supervisors and Qualification Review of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China", the committee reviewed and approved 48 new doctoral supervisors, including Liu Qiang, recommended by the schools' academic degree evaluation subcommittees.

In July, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China announced the list of new doctoral supervisors for 2024. Comrades Cheng Zhuzhong, Liu Dengqun, and Jiang Qian have been approved as doctoral supervisors. With the expansion of the doctoral supervisor team, the number of supervisors in our hospital has reached the requirements of a national regional medical center, providing a favorable opportunity for the rapid improvement of our overall academic strength and playing a critical role in the training of our future talents.
02. Our Hospital Visits Kangzhou Village with Sichuan Committee of China Zhi Gong Party for Rural Revitalization Research and Outreach Activities
To implement the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, and People's Government of Sichuan Province regarding rural revitalization work, and effectively carry out targeted assistance to Kangzhou Village in Guzan Town, Kangding City, under the arrangement of the hospital's Party Committee, our hospital's Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Fan Wei led a team from the Propaganda and United Front Work Department, General Affairs Department, and other departments of the hospital, along with Zhang Jing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Sichuan Committee of China Zhi Gong Party, to Kangzhou Village on July 2-3 for research on rural revitalization. They also visited and extended regards to our hospital's resident cadres in the village, village Party members, and families in need. Luo Xiuzhen, Director of the Kangding Municipal People's Congress, Yang Hui, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Kangding Municipal Committee and Deputy Mayor, Yang Jiaying, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Guzan Town, and Jiang Dong, Secretary of the Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Guzan Town, participated in the aforementioned activities.
03. Completion of 2024 Sichuan Province Chronic Disease Health Management — Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis Training (First Batch Offline)
After three weeks of offline training, on July 5, the first batch of Sichuan Province Chronic Disease Health Management — Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis Training concluded with a ceremony held at the Tianfu Campus of Sichuan Cancer Hospital. A total of 121 trainees participated in this batch, covering four topics: cancer prevention and health management, endoscopy screening and early diagnosis (Phase 1), early pathological diagnosis of cancer, and ultrasound screening and early diagnosis. The Chronic Disease Health Management — Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis Training program is a special training project supported by central government to address the shortage of talents. Its aim is to train and cultivate professional technicians in cancer screening and early diagnosis, and to establish a team of "early warning doctors" for cancer prevention. 2024 marks the fifth year of training in Sichuan Province.
On July 8, the second batch of early diagnosis training in 2024 (offline) commenced simultaneously at two provincial training centers: Sichuan Cancer Hospital (Sichuan Cancer Center) and the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University (Luzhou Cancer Center).
04. Director Tao Yisheng and Delegation from the China Zhi Gong Party Central Committee's Medical and Health Committee Conduct Research on High-Quality Development Work at Our Hospital
On the morning of July 10, Director Tao Yisheng and a delegation from the China Zhi Gong Party Central Committee's Medical and Health Committee visited our hospital to conduct research on the topic "Proposals for Promoting Reform and High-Quality Development in Public Hospitals". The welcome was extended by our hospital's Secretary of the Party Committee Yi Qun and President Lin Tongyu. The delegation toured the hospital's Health Management and Cancer Screening Center, as well as the Radiotherapy Center, and received a briefing on the hospital's high-quality development work. Accompanying the research were Deputy Directors Sun Yang, Yu Shengchen, and Wang Daping from the China Zhi Gong Party Central Committee's Medical and Health Committee, Yang Bangqiong, Full-time Vice Chair of the Sichuan Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party and Vice Secretary-General of the Sichuan Committee of China Zhi Gong Party, and Tang Xuefeng, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Sichuan Province.

The highly anticipated 66th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is set to take place from September 29 to October 2, 2024, in the United States. The ASTRO Annual Meeting is a prestigious gathering in the field of radiation oncology globally, serving as a leading platform for scientific research innovation and academic exchange. Recently, ASTRO announced the acceptance of submitted research papers. Teams led by Professors Lang Jinyi, Li Tao, Yin Jun, Wang Qifeng, Zhang Shichuan, Liao Wenjun, Zhao Yue, and Li Jie from our Department of Radiotherapy Center/Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory had a total of 18 research works selected. Among them, Professor Wang Qifeng's research abstract was honored with the "Outstanding Abstract Award" by the ASTRO Annual Meeting Scientific Committee, while Professor Zhao Yue's team's research was chosen for oral presentation at the meeting.
06. Follow the Red Footprints and Understand the Original Aspiration and Mission
— Our Hospital Conducts Red Education and Training in Chongqing
"Under the overall arrangements of the hospital's Party Committee, our hospital carried out a series of Party education activities in 2024 with the theme "Forging the Soul through Education, Striving Forward". From July 12 to 13, our hospital's Secretary of the Party Committee Yi Qun, members of Party Committee and Vice Presidents Lu Shun and Lu Man, member of Party Committee, Chief Accountant, and Union Chairman Li Jian, along with over 100 Party members, advanced representatives, democratic party representatives, and activists of Party application, traveled to Chongqing for red education and training. The opening ceremony took place at the CPC Nanan District Committee Party School in Chongqing, where teacher Wang Chao from the Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary Historical and Cultural Center delivered a themed party lecture titled "Promoting the Spirit of Hongyan, Firming Ideals and Beliefs". Participants visited various sites for learning, including the Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the Former Site of the Southern Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Eighth Route Army in Chongqing, the Geleshan Martyrs Cemetery, the Geleshan Memorial Hall, the Former Site of Zhazi Cave Prison, and the Former Site of Baigongguan Prison.
07. Our Hospital Organizes Non-Party Members to Visit the Sichuan United Front Historical Education Exhibition Hall for an On-Site Educational Activity
To further strengthen the ideological and political guidance, as well as education and training for non-Party members in the hospital, and to consolidate and expand the achievements of the thematic education on "Building Unity, Solidifying Foundations, and Striving for a New Journey", on July 10, under the arrangements of the hospital's Party committee, our hospital organized a productive on-site educational activity for some non-Party members to visit the Sichuan United Front Historical Education Exhibition Hall at the Sichuan Socialist College. Nearly 30 participants from various democratic parties within the hospital, non-Party representatives, and non-Party intellectuals participated.

Eight outstanding talents from our hospital were successfully selected based on their outstanding contributions and development potential in the medical and health industry.
09. Innovation Leads the Future: Post-Doctor He Chuanshi from Professor Lu Man's Team at Our Hospital Wins Second Prize in the Southwest Division of Youth Entrepreneurship Competition
On July 16, the Southwest Division of the "Beautiful China, Dynamic Huzhou" Global Youth Entrepreneurship Competition was held in Chengdu, attracting numerous outstanding young entrepreneurs from Southwest China. He Chuanshi, a postdoctoral fellow at the Sichuan Cancer Hospital, under the guidance of Professor Lu Man, led a team with the project "Application and Transformation of Ultrasound Neuromodulation Technology based on Tumor Neurosciences in Immune Microenvironment Reconstruction of Brain Tumors". After rigorous selection and fierce competition among 80 projects, they stood out and won the second prize in the competition.
10. Eighth in National Cancer Specialty Rankings!
Our Hospital Sees Significant Improvement in Ranking of 2023 STEM of Chinese Hospitals
On July 19, the 2023 Chinese Medical School/Hospital Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM), along with the 2019-2023 Five-Year ASTEM, were released. In the 2023 Discipline STEM of Chinese Hospitals, our hospital had a total of seven disciplines ranked in the top 100, with an increase of two disciplines compared to the previous year, marking a historic breakthrough. Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Hematology disciplines saw significant improvements in rankings, with Ultrasound Medicine and Nuclear Medicine making their debut on the list.
Four disciplines achieve historic high rankings: Oncology ranks 8th among cancer hospitals, up one place from last year (9th), and 28th among all hospitals, rising 11 places from last year (39th). Thoracic Surgery ranks 36th, up nine places from last year (45th), Obstetrics and Gynecology ranks 62nd, up 12 places from last year (74th), and Hematology ranks 89th, up 11 places from last year (100th). Stomatology ranks 91st among all hospitals.

In the 2019-2023 Five-Year ASTEM, our hospital had five disciplines listed: Oncology ranked 35th, Thoracic Surgery ranked 44th, Obstetrics and Gynecology ranked 67th, Ultrasound Medicine ranked 68th, and Hematology ranked 97th.
11. Wang Qifeng and Peng Lin from the Esophageal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team Publishes Longitudinal Multi-stage CT Study Predicting Pathological Response to Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy
In July 2024, Wang Qifeng's team from the Department of Chest Ward I and Peng Lin's team from the Department of Thoracic Surgery Ward I published a report titled "Predicting Pathological Response in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Longitudinal CT Radiomics and Disentangled Representation Learning: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study". This journal is a high-impact publication in the field of surgery, with an impact factor of 12.5. It ranks 2nd out of 290 journals in the "Surgery" category in the JCR. This study utilized longitudinal CT images collected from Sichuan Cancer Hospital for model training and internal validation. External validation was conducted using prospective data from Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital to construct the EsopCR model. Leveraging representation learning techniques, the team successfully predicted pathological complete response (pCR) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT). Through this research, the teams led by Wang Qifeng and Peng Lin have provided new insights and methods for precision medicine in esophageal cancer, demonstrating the significant potential and application prospects of advanced imaging technology in oncology treatment.
12. "Healthy Plateau Tour" — Keep Health on the Plateau
Following the 2023 "Healthy Plateau Tour" activity, Sichuan Cancer Hospital, in collaboration with Kangba TV of Sichuan Radio and Television and the Sichuan Anti-Cancer Association, conducted a science popularization training and health youth outreach program in Shiqu and Yushu from July 17 to July 21, 2024. The aim was to provide preventive and treatment knowledge that is practical and applicable to ethnic minority communities through training, enhancing the professional skills of grassroots medical staff in these areas. The activity trained over 300 local medical workers, provided science popularization training and consultations to more than 280 local residents, distributed over 120 informational materials, and conducted door-to-door medical consultations for three households.
13. Our Hospital Wins First Prize in the 7th Smart Healthcare Innovation Competition (Sichuan Division)
The final of the 7th Smart Healthcare Innovation Competition (Sichuan Division) was successfully held in Ya'an from July 19 to 21. Co-hosted by over 40 industry associations/societies from 31 provinces and municipalities nationwide, the competition aims to promote the innovative integration of healthcare and information technology, showcasing forefront explorations in the field of smart healthcare. After multiple rounds of selection in the Sichuan Division, a total of 24 projects advanced to the finals. Our hospital's project, "Exploration of High-Availability Dual-Active Architecture in the Healthcare Industry", successfully made it to the finals. The team presented the project and answered questions from industry experts during the finals, ultimately winning first place in the province in the IT Application Innovation track and the first prize in the 7th Smart Healthcare Innovation Competition (Sichuan Division), advancing to the national finals!
14. Department of Thoracic Medical Oncology Ward I and Department of Abdominal Medical Oncology Ward Settle in the Tianfu Campus
On July 22, the Department of Thoracic Medical Oncology Ward I and Department of Abdominal Medical Oncology Ward officially moved into the 10th floor of the inpatient building at Tianfu Campus, where they began admitting patients. Hospital President Lin Tongyu, Vice President Liao Hong, and department heads witnessed the opening of the departments. Since its opening on December 21 last year, Tianfu Campus has seen six major departments move in, including General Medicine, Department of Chest Ward II, Department of Thoracic Medical Oncology Ward II, Department of TCM and Western Medicine Ward, Department of Thoracic Medical Oncology Ward I, and Department of Abdominal Medical Oncology Ward. With the steady progress in the preparation of operating rooms, ICU, Department of Pathology, among others, Tianfu Campus is gearing up to provide patients with more comfortable and convenient medical services in a brand new environment.
15. Continue to Support Rural Revitalization
Six Cadres from Our Hospital Stationed in Wufu Town, Yilong County, Nanchong
To earnestly implement the requirements of the notice issued by the Organization Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and six other departments regarding the deployment of first secretaries and work team members to villages at the provincial and municipal levels, our hospital's Party Committee has carefully selected six outstanding individuals to go to six villages in Wufu Town, Yilong County, Nanchong for a year and a half of village assistance work. This initiative aims to effectively connect poverty alleviation achievements with rural revitalization efforts. On July 24, Fan Wei, Deputy Secretary of our hospital's Party Committee, led the team to accompany the stationed assistance personnel to report to their posts. Throughout the process, they were accompanied by the county-level contact leaders of Wufu Town, Chen Yan, the Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of Yilong County, Mo Lian, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wufu Town, Xu Kai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Town Mayor, and Mao Yi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Member of the Organization Committee.
16. "Comprehensive Measures for Scientific Cancer Prevention"
Our Hospital Conducts Public Health Consultation Event on World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2024
On the morning of July 26, our hospital held the World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2024 public health consultation event at the Wuhou Campus in preparation for World Head and Neck Cancer Day observed annually on July 27. Vice President Li Chao delivered a speech for the science popularization lecture series. Professors Cai Yongcong, Liu Jianmin, and Huang Yecai from the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and Department of Radiotherapy Center respectively, provided vivid and interactive explanations on early identification and treatment of head and neck lumps, as well as principles of managing oral and throat cancers in easily understandable language, enabling patients to better understand head and neck tumors scientifically. Professor Wang Xianliang and Head Nurse Yin Li introduced common treatment issues through case studies, helping patients gain a better understanding of tumors and cooperate scientifically with tumor diagnosis and treatment. In the outpatient hall, professors Wang Zhaohui, Chen Yongguo, and Liu Kun from the Department of Head and Neck Surgery; professors Zhang Shichuan, Li Fang, and Huang Yecai from the Department of Head and Neck Ward; and head nurses Tian Rendi, Zeng Dingfen, Li Xiaoxia, and Yin Li from the Head and Neck Care Team patiently answered questions from the public on personalized treatment plans, symptom recovery, and surgery and radiotherapy, while offering detailed guidance on patient nutrition, swallowing disorders, activities, diet, sleep, and psychological aspects.
